PSA: You don’t need to be part of the LGBTQ community to participate in Pride celebrations, parties, or parades. June (a.k.a. Pride Month) is a wonderful opportunity to support LGBTQ-owned businesses or shops that are giving back to organizations that fight for LGBTQ rights. As you figure out what to wear to Pride as an ally, here are a few things to keep in mind.
Stick to weather-appropriate styles that make a supportive statement, whether that’s cute protest patches on a denim jacket or a graphic tee with a message like “Ask me my pronouns!”. Also, between the walking, the heat, the sweat, and long hours, you’ll want to have the right gear on hand for the day — a belt bag can hold your essentials along with makeup touch-ups and decorative pins. Stock up on extras if you want to be able to pass them out to people you’re attending the Pride parade with, or new friends that you meet along the way. But most importantly, go in with an open mind, a willingness to learn, and a fully-charged phone so you can take allllll the pics.
Below, some suggestions for what to wear to Pride as an ally.
This flip sequin shirt (run your hand over the rainbow sequins to reveal a brand new design!) was created for Abercrombie in partnership with The Trevor Project. The brand makes a donation to the LGBTQ non-profit each year.
Pura Vida is partnering with The Trevor Project to give back a portion of the proceeds from their collection of Pride bracelets. Buy a couple of these for yourself and gift them to your friends to show your love for them during Pride Month and every month after.
Nothing says celebration like a super bright, cheerful print. Pair your favorite flowy mini dress with colorful block heel, platform, or flat-soled shoes for optimal comfort.
